Look for the good.. It’s everywhere!

After talking to an old friend yesterday I haven’t seen in years got me to thinking. The conversation started with the usual; How you been? How’s the family? What have you been up to? Listening to all the usual answers that seemed focused with a negative slant, I was thinking how sociality is so programmed to look for the bad. Today’s media like newspapers, television, radio.. recession, no job, no whatever … . It’s everywhere and time for needs changing!

Looking for some good in his life, and knowing how much his family meant to him, I ask about his #1 son, Scott. He immediately lit up like the Christmas tree in Rockefeller square at Christmas. My memory of Scott was always his love for sports and his unbelievable ability to recall athlete stats on demand. He would recite any player’s (even the obscure) stats on demand and always did this with such pride and the smile in doing it that was infectious! Scott followed his dream of being a sports writer. After his 4th year playing hockey for the local university, WLU, and graduating with a business degree, he spent an extra year taking a journalism course. Today he leads the Fantasy Sports News section of TSN’s web site (leading sports network here in Canada) and doing it with the same passion of that same young boy years back quoting bubble gum stats cards. Well done Scott! A great story of someone who is "living their dream" that was right in front of him. All he had to do was look and see for it.

What you look for is a matter of choice and what you look for is what you will find. The real question is; What are you looking for?

Bruins Rule

One just has to love the hockey playoffs. As an old bruins fan, the hype around the Bruins and Canadians. These 2 teams have met in playoffs more than any other teams in the leagues history and the excitement just continues to grow!
Even if your not a big hockey fan, you will love this commercial:

Go Bruins!!

Golf GPS Program - BBGPSGolf

Yesterday was another fun day on the course! As Jack Nicolas once said, “the first round of the year is always the best, so just enjoy it”, I think that the first 3-5 rounds are like that. Great time of the year.

I have been looking for a new toy and found one this week. It’s called “BBGPSGolf”. The software runs on my blackberry 8900 and yesterday was the first day of playing with it. My home course, Stratford County Club, was not programmed in so had to combine both golf and technology. Can you imagine that. Me trying to play a round of golf while playing with my crackberry? As it turned out, it really was rather easier than I thought. You have the capability to go as detailed as you like. I only started with marking the tee block, front, middle and back of greens. It was quite simple to do and by doing that the course is automatically updated online for other members to use and update. Works a little like a social network for GPS of Golf Courses. Great idea and very handy for other players can add traps, dog legs, ect as well. There is also another interface to do it on their website using google maps but I had more fun doing it during the round and it did not disrupt my playing partners and I still shot mid 80s.

The setup was rather easy. I just downloaded the program using my blackberry browser and it installed straight away. I did have 1 problem in connecting to the network and sent and the program sent an email to the company and Justin replied within a couple of hours. I had to add to change 1 setting on TCP/IP option and away it went.
The best part of the program is that is free. They do ask for a donation on their website of $5.00 using paypal but that is your option. I like the program and even though my cash flow is limited, It’s worth the 5 bucks!

Till the next time.

Great Tune

Found this video today when I was going a little research. An interesting tune in that it is quite simple in today’s music standard, stays with you and does pick one up on one of those days. This was a large hit in the last year and I’m wondering whether being just a simple and fun has anything to do with it?

Have a fun day and do something that makes you feel good. You deserve it!

Where did the years go?

The kids had me travel to Stoney Creek for a belated birthday bbg and this is the card they gave me that got me to thinking.

On the drive home and listening to the usual radio station with all the good tunes, the speakers start pushing out some Rolling Stones, Beatles, and Grateful Dead. Great music but the scary part is that one knows all the words to the song and then you realize that they were original released over 30 years ago!

I have been lucky to be on the leading edge of technology for so many years. Having been part of having the fax replaced with email, private networks in corporations to a world wide public network and phone booths replaced with cell phones. Small cars went to station wagons to Vans/SUVs and now back to smaller cars and cross-overs. Whether it's newspapers now being replaced with blogs, social networks and internet wiki, technology has changed more in the last 10 years than the entire century prior that. Maybe given the opportunity we may even have a cure for old age. I love and embrace what technology has and continues to do you mankind. Activities happen so much faster now than ever before and all the major crisis that seemed so critical at the time, now seems almost insignificant.

Digital technology and the Internet is changing everything we do faster than any single human can keep up with. There are just too many variables in this day and age for one person to think they know it all. Education, engagement, and collaboration is the wave of the future.

Still Sking at Blue Mountain

We decided that a weekend at our timeshare was in the cards for Easter, so we managed getting 2 nights at Carriage Hills, http://www.carriagehillsresort.com/. Friday was such a beautiful day the back road's drive was in order.

We ended up having lunch in the Village at Blue Mountain, an Intrawest property, and to our surprise the lifts were still open! With tempatures in the 10C range, I was thinking golf. Here is a brief slideshow I took with my blackberry:

All in all, it was a fantastic outing. Only wish I hadn't replaced the boards from the trunk with the golf sticks. Only proves at this time of the year, one has to have both!
